From Sukuna Park to the Next Generation
A family story 18 years in the making
When Ulamila joined Westpac in September 2006, she was searching for an opportunity to build a better future for her young family.
What she couldn't have known at the time was that nearly two decades later, her son would follow in her footsteps and begin a Westpac journey of his own.
Ulamila still remembers the day she sat the aptitude test that would eventually lead to a role with the bank.
While she completed the assessment, her husband and two-year-old son, Isikeli, waited nearby at Sukuna Park.
It was a simple moment, but one that would come to represent the beginning of a life-changing chapter for their family.
Over the years, Westpac became far more than a workplace. It became part of the family's growth, achievements and milestones.
Nine years after joining the bank, Ulamila and her family were able to purchase their own home. Later came a family vehicle and other achievements that reflected years of hard work, commitment and perseverance.
"Westpac has become more than a workplace for us," Ulamila says. "Westpac has been part of our family's journey, growth and achievements, making our story one of pride, connection and lasting legacy."
Then, 18 years after Ulamila joined Westpac, a familiar name appeared among the bank's newest employees.
Isikeli began his own career as a Teller at the Suva Branch before moving into his current role as a Reconciler within the International Operations team.
Today, mother and son both work in reconciliation roles, sharing not only a family connection but a passion for learning and supporting those around them.
Through their careers at Westpac, they have learned from one another in meaningful ways.
"We have learned the importance of supporting each other, embracing each other's ideas and staying open to learning at every stage," Ulamila says.
One lesson she continues to share with her son is the importance of respecting and valuing everyone's perspective, regardless of age, role or background.
"Every person brings something valuable to the table, and sometimes the best lessons come from simply listening to others with an open mind."
As Westpac celebrates 125 years in Fiji, Ulamila and Isikeli's story is a reminder that behind every milestone are people, families and communities whose lives have grown alongside ours.
What began with a mother pursuing an opportunity has come full circle, with the little boy who once waited in Sukuna Park now building a career of his own at Westpac.
And together, they are helping write the next chapter of a family legacy that spans generations.
